Deg Ajmer Dargah – Khwaja Gharib Nawaz ka Langar ka Markaz

The holy Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishty (RA) in Ajmer Sharif is world-famous for its two sacred Degs (cauldrons) – the Badi Deg (big) and Chhoti Deg (small).
These Degs are used daily to prepare Langar Niyaz, the blessed food offered to devotees and the poor.

🌙 Origin & History
The tradition of cooking in these giant Degs started during the Mughal era, when Emperor Akbar donated the first huge Deg after his prayer for a son was answered. Since then, the Degs have been symbols of gratitude, charity, and barkat (blessings).

🍲 About the Degs at Ajmer Sharif

• Badi Deg: Cooks ≈ 4800 kg of rice or food in one time.

• Chhoti Deg: Cooks ≈ 2400 kg of food.

• Ingredients include rice, dal, ghee, dry fruits, and sugar.

• Food cooked is distributed free as Langar Niyaz to everyone.

• Devotees worldwide sponsor or donate for Deg Niyaz.

Cooking in the Deg is not just charity—it’s seva (service) in Khwaja Baba’s name. Every spoon served spreads the Sufi message of love, peace, and equality.

 Deg Ajmer All these Ajmer Deghs are cooked by Zaireen (pilgrims/devotees)
 who can afford to cook, through their respected Khuddams of Khwaja Gharib Nawaz. If you have a plan to cook Degh at any time of the year, please let me know in advance, so that i may make the necessary arrangements required, as Deghs are cooked all the year round. It can be cooked in your personal presence & in your absence too, on your behalf or any sort of Niyaz you want to cook other then Ajmer Degh.

• Sufies, Dervash and Aulia Allah started the custom of arranging
   Langars (free distribution of food for all the makhlooks (mankind)
   and this is now considered as one of the biggest charity one can offer.
  We arrange Langar, which includes one deg of biryani
   that can feed 100 people.
  Note: This should not be included as part of Zakat money.

• We make it possible for you to participate
   in all the activities of Dargah Sharief.
   The activities include milad, khatam of Quran,
  special monthly prayers for members etc.
   This entails becoming a member of our silsila.

• Make transport and lodging arrangement, package trips
   and also offer services of our guesthouse for free stay.

• Make arrangement for donating a room
  for people visiting the Dargah Sharief
  We believe Khawaja Baba's blessings can cure any disease,
   business or personal problems.
